Natural Resources of Warm Springs

Natural Resources of Warm Springs is a part of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs located on a 640,000-acre reservation in north-central Oregon.

The mission of the Branch of Natural Resources is to plan and execute a balanced direction for the protection, use, and enhancement to all tribal natural resources. Natural Resources of Warm Springs is tasked with effectively working together to support their mission in order to enhance their community and enable effective cross-functional IT solutions.

Business Problem

The Natural Resources of Warm Springs were operating on a hosted IMAP and had been evaluating G Suite for Business as potential cloud-based email solutions for their 200 users. This decentralized infrastructure created complexity with systems integration and communication, IT planning, and budgeting when working alongside the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. The Natural Resources department was looking for a cloud-based solution to enhance communication and collaboration across all of its government services that would provide cost savings and long term ROI.

Tempus Nova Solution

Tempus Nova worked closely with Natural Resources of Warm Springs to identify their IT and business requirements, security and compliance requirements, and establish integration points between the state’s legacy systems and Google. Tempus Nova mapped the business processes with application functionality and designed a comprehensive change management strategy to prepare each user for the coming change. We deployed approximately 200 users to G Suite Basic, 50 users to Google Vault, and 75 users for Optional Data Migration Services as well as providing training resources on each application. Tempus Nova’s Google Certified Deployment Specialists configured the G Suite domain and services for use, set up Google Vault, provisioned users, and implemented Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS). Our Google Migration Specialists engineered the migration tool, CloudMigrator, to migrate email, calendar, and contact data for Natural Resources of Warm Springs from their hosted IMAP to G Suite Basic. In addition, Tempus Nova worked to design an application integration strategy to allow applications within the legacy environment route emails to Gmail with the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP).

Result

Natural Resources of Warm Springs began deployment for 200 users to G Suite Basic and 75 users to Google Vault in March 2019. Tempus Nova’s Google Certified Deployment Specialists configured the G Suite domain and services for use, set up Google Vault, provisioned users, and implemented Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS). Our Google Migration Specialists engineered the migration tool, CloudMigrator, to migrate email, calendar, and contact data for Natural Resources of Warm Springs employees from a hosted IMAP to G Suite Basic. Tempus Nova’s  Google Certified Trainers and change management specialists developed targeted communication to all end users to notify and prepare them for their new email platform transition. In addition, we provided deployment, go-live support, and project management services throughout the duration of the project.

The result of these Google platform initiatives has enabled Natural Resources of Warm Springs and other public sector organizations to achieve a rolling return on investment beyond email. This provided a path to cost avoidance by eliminating the higher costs of non-Google solutions that performed similar functions.
